Counselling for neurodivergent adults
Many neurodivergent adults seek support with a psychologist after years of trying to adapt, cope, or push through – often without having their neurotype truly understood. Our affirming psychologists offer counselling for adults that supports your goals and wellbeing in ways that fit who you are, without attempting to “fix” your uniqueness or make you appear more neurotypical.
What can our psychologists support adults with?
At Infinity Psychology & Assessments, our neurodiversity-affirming psychologists support adults for a range of issues, including:
Feeling anxious or overwhelmed
Depression, low mood, and low motivation
Stress and burnout (occupational or neurodivergent)
Emotional regulation and anger
Socialising and relating to others
Self-understanding and feeling misunderstood
Adjustments and life transitions (e.g., starting a new job, starting university, adjusting to parenting)
Trauma and ongoing stressors
Navigating a mismatch of communication styles
We also welcome neurotypical clients who are seeking general mental health support, or who are supporting a neurodivergent family member or loved one.
How is our therapy neurodiversity-affirming?
Our team understand that many neurodivergent adults have often had previous expeirences of being misunderstood or pathologised in psychological therapy and health services. When working in a neuro-affirming way, our psychologists:
understand the importance of and centre the client’s individual experiences
provide clear communication, transparency, and flexibility around the structure of sessions and the goals for counselling
take into consideration sensory and communication preferences during sessions
do not actively encourage masking, hiding, or changing an individual’s unique qualities
provide a non-judgemental environment where clients can feel safe to unmask or stim (if they would like!)
